The key to good teaching and learning in our schools is the learning environment, and the quality of this environment is significantly determined by the human relationships within the school. Pastoral care cannot be thought of in separate terms from the teaching and learning within the school; it is a key determinant of successful learning. This vision of pastoral care permeates all levels of the pastoral care structure at St Joseph’s College from Year 7 through to Year 12, and is the compass that guides us in all aspects of College life.
All staff at St Joseph’s College are involved in the pastoral care of our students. School staff, parents, clergy, the parish and the community all play an active role in the pastoral care of our students.
Student wellbeing underpins all we do at St Joseph’s College, which is why we place such a strong emphasis on pastoral care. We take a holistic view of our students development, nurturing each student’s physical, social, emotional, psychological, intellectual and spiritual wellness.
Student leadership opportunities, connections with the school and wider community service activities, learning initiatives and the College House structure are designed to help each student be the best version of themselves.
